Emergency Lighting Inspections

Emergency lighting should be regularly checked and maintained by a competent person.

Inspection and maintenance of your emergency lighting is necessary to ensure sufficient illumination is available to enable people to evacuate a building in the event of an emergency.
Our systems are fully certified to current legislative standards.

Why should I arrange an inspection?

Employers and building owners are legally responsible for the upkeep of emergency lighting systems to ensure sufficient and automatic illumination to enable a safe evacuation of the building in the event of an emergency and failure of normal lighting.
Emergency lighting is part of the fire safety provision of a building and a requirement of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) .

How often should an inspection be carried out?

The latest British Standard recommends that you have a 3 hour emergency lighting test once a year, during which your main light circuit should be switched off and your emergency lights left on for a 3 hour period to find out of any batteries need replacing. In addition, each month you need to switch off the mains power supply to check the automatic lighting is working.

Is it really that important ?

Yes, reasons include:

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the installation of emergency and safety lighting and that it is functioning correctly.
Breaches of regulations can result in the person responsible being fined or even imprisoned.
Helps protect buildings and businesses from being destroyed.
It helps to save lives.
