2) Fuse Board Upgrade Regulations

Fuse Boards in the UK must comply with the Electrical Safety Regulations. In order to meet these requirements new installations must be certified by a qualified electrician such as EMC Electrical Group and we’ll label the unit with the installation date and the next inspection date, homeowners should then have them checked at least every ten years and all electrical circuits must be protected from overload and residual current leakage.

With this in mind we can reassure you all modern consumer units come with RCD’s (residual current devices) and MCB’s (mini circuit breakers). Should you be looking for EMC Electrical Group at a later date to install a new electric shower, we can just install an RCD for the new circuit, you would not have to upgrade the entire fusebox again.

3) The Main Parts of a Fuse Board Upgrade

There are three main parts to your Fuse Board Upgrade. A Consumer Unit houses the main switch, circuit breakers and residual current devices. These components all work together harmoniously to control the flow of electricity and protect your Bristol home from any hazards.

  • The main switch controls the flow of electricity into your Bristol home and is used to cut the supply in the event of an emergency
  • Circuit breakers will protect your home’s individual circuits from being overloaded or short circuiting. They shut down the power to a circuit should the current rise too much
  • Residual current devices monitor the current flowing through the circuits and will cut the power if again it rises too high. They often come in pairs each covering half of your home
