Back to topElectric vehicles have taken over UK roads! With more and more of us conscious about our carbon footprint and opting for renewable energy, there are more EV users now than ever before. Unfortunately with more EV on the road, EV charging infrastructure is just not sufficient. To avoid waiting for a public charging point to become available, more EV users are opting to have home EV charging installed.
A home EV charger is a device installed at your home to provide a safer and faster means of charging your vehicle.
Back to topYes you can! As long as you are the homeowner or have written permission from the homeowner, EV charging can be possible. Ideally you would need a space such a driveway or garage to make the EV charging process even more convenient for you.
EMC Electrical group have installed a number of home EV chargers in Bristol, the South West and South Wales. We strongly suggest that you have a good WiFi connection at your property as a number of EV charger brands offer smart charging as a feature on apps via a smart phone, making the charging process even more convenient for you.
This means you can charge your EV using lower tariffs from your home energy provider, saving you even more money.
Back to topEMC Electrical group have typically installed chargers of 7kW which is the ideal speed for charging at a residential property. An EV with an average size battery of 600kWh will take around 8 hours to charge which makes overnight charging a breeze.
Home EV charging takes the stress away from having to locate a public charging space or the endless time needed when using a three pin plug from the mains.
Back to topThe actual installation process takes just a few hours. EMC Electrical group are experienced and qualified professionals, we have the skills and knowledge to install EV chargers inline with regulations and safety standards.
Back to topAs fully accredited NICEIC electricians, all EV charger installations we conduct follow frameworks set by OZEV, the office of zero emission vehicles.
During the initial visit to your property, we can identify the right location for the EV charger to be installed, we also check that the surface the charger will be installed against is either brick or plaster wall.
Next, a cable of 10m is laid from your fuse box or consumer to the EV charger. We conduct a number of tests to check the charger is functioning as it should but most importantly, that it is safe.
Back to topOne feature you will have to decide is whether you prefer a tethered or untethered charger. Similar to traditional diesel or petrol pumps, a tethered charger will have a permanent charging cable attached to the charger we install. It’s less likely to be stolen or lost and makes charging your vehicle seamless and fast.
If opting for an untethered charge, you will need to locate your charging cable each time you want to charge your vehicle. This can be troublesome and an inconvenience to you.
